The primary topic of discussion at this meeting was 2012 events. Events in the planning stages include a drive to the Unser indoor go-kart racing track in Denver (February 25), the March dinner meeting at Biaggi’s (March 20), our annual Spring Cleaning event (March 31 or April 14), the Forney Transportation Museum in Denver (April 7 or 14), a possible driving rally (May 19 or 26), an overnight (or two overnights) drive to Grand Junction to visit the Tammy Allen Museum and the Gate-way Museum (June 15 and 16), and maybe a Sky Sox night game some evening in July.

August is our annual drive to the Holy Cross Winery. We are again considering a club showing at the First and Main car show with breakfast at Mimi’s. Another August possibility is a visit to a local restoration shop.

September plans include a drive in the Morrison/Evergreen area. October 6 is the 4th annual Pikes Peak Concours d’Elegance (a JCNA Sanctioned event). We are looking at visiting some local attractions later in October and possibly Glen Eyrie castle in November. December will be our annual Christmas Holiday party.

A few other events under consideration include the Denver Aquarium, the Denver Mint, and other museums along the Front Range.

Thom shared the results of the 2011 Care and Share drive. The club received three letters of acknowledgement from the Care and Share Food Bank for Southern Colorado for our donations of a total of 182 pounds of food and $400.00 in cash.

The MG Car Club – Rocky Mountain Centre invites you to help us celebrate our 60th Annual Rallye Glenwood Springs, the oldest continually-held time-speed-distance rallye in the United States, on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 8, 9 & 10, 2012. The first Glenwood Springs Rallye began with a hardy group of MGCC-RMC sports car owners who discovered the joys of top-down motoring in Colorado when MGs still had running boards and the new TR2 and powerful XK-120 were just beginning to be sold by Colorado car dealers. Imagine what Colorado mountain roads were like during that 1952 Rallye—gravel (some pavement!), no guardrails (helps to slow drivers!), single-lane bridges (you need more?), hairpin curves, sheer cliffs, and thin air (well, we still have those!).

The Rocky Mountains of central Colorado, with some of the most breathtaking scenery in America, have formed the backdrop for the Rallye Glenwood Springs through fifty-nine previous years. Vintage and classic cars from as far away as California and Illinois have shared the twisting mountain roads with their newer counterparts for octane-related festivities. And enthusiasts have come from as far away as England to drive borrowed MGCC-RMC cars through such fabled Colorado mining towns as Leadville and Aspen on their way to Glenwood Springs.

This milestone weekend is a marvelous opportunity for not only MG owners but also all car enthusiasts of every marque—British, American, European, Asian—to come together for sunny days, cool nights, and unique events. The fun begins Friday with a scenic Road Tour winding through canyons and over mountain passes between Denver and Glenwood Springs. Saturday’s main event is the Rallye Glenwood Springs—a time-speed-distance rally to challenge both novice and experienced rallyists—through the beautiful mountain valleys around Glenwood Springs. The weekend culminates with the Banquet on Saturday night and the Car Show, Funkhana, and Awards Presentation on Sunday.

Registration is only $45 (before May 15, $55 thereafter) for all driving events and the car show; banquet and regalia are extra. Additional information and registration forms are available on the MG Car Club, Rocky Mountain Centre website at http://mgcc.org/. You can also contact Glenwood Publicity Chairman Steve Hart at 303-985-2763 or E-mail: stephen_hart45@msn.com for information.

Jaguar heritage is alive and well along the Colorado front range in 2011. Outstanding quality vintage Jaguars graced the Rocky Mountain Jaguar Club Concours d’Elegance, the British Motoring Conclave, the British Motoring Festival and the Jaguar Club of Southern Colorado Concours d’Elegance this summer.

The JCSC Concours d’Elegance kicked off Friday evening with cocktails and dinner at the Crowne Plaza in Colorado Springs. Friends from as far away as South Dakota were present and a good time was had by all.

Saturday dawned beautiful and warm with our first non-member spectator arriving early to get a front row seat with plenty of shade. . We had lots of interesting entries in the BMF including three Lotus’, several Mini’s, a few Jaguars (not members of the JCSC yet?) and a very good showing of MGs. Gary and Dee Kerkow’s XK-150 made an appearance again this year but only as a display car (minus a few components).

We were blessed again this October with spectacular weather. Lots of convertibles with their tops down were in attendance, both in the show and driving by to check out the action. With so many outstanding cars entered this year there was an abundance of tough competition to test the talents of our judges. We will post the show results in next month’s newsletter.

The afternoon drive included a well kept local secret; the upper Broadmoor Golf Course club house which proved to be a wonderful respite from the unseasonable city heat. The club house’s location high on Cheyenne Mountain provided a spectacular view of Colorado Springs from the Garden of the Gods to Fort Carson. Our thanks to Budd for letting us in on this great location.

We managed to include Manitou Springs and the Garden of the Gods in our drive again this year. The weekend traffic jam in Manitou was unexpected but the Garden of the Gods was as beautiful this fall as ever.

The Awards ceremony included a delicious dinner and a great auction and raffle hosted by Thom Buckley. Jaguar / Land Rover Colorado Springs is an ideal setting for a British automotive event. Maybe we could persuade Thom to add a “Growler Café” here just for British gearheads. I think it’s safe to say everyone fully enjoyed this delightful evening in Colorado Springs.

For a complete run down on the event check out the October Newsletter.

Don’t forget the next JCSC meeting will be September 20 at 7:00 P.M.. We will meet at Jaguar Colorado Springs, 565 Automotive Drive in Motor City. We are rapidly approaching the Pikes Peak Concours d’Elegance on October 1, so lots of planning will occur at the September meeting. Please plan to attend and join in the fun!

The JCSC will be visiting the Shelby American Collection in Boulder, CO on Saturday, September 10, 2011. This is a very interesting and historically significant collection of original Shelby racing cars and memorabilia. We will be having lunch at the Baker Street Pub and Cafe also in Boulder before visiting the museum. We plan to meet at the Park and Ride parking lot (just south of the Village Inn Restaurant) in Monument around 10:00 A.M. before driving to Boulder. If you are interested in joining this drive and tour, please contact a JCSC Board Member as soon as possible so we can update our reservations.

If you don’t plan to attend the JCSC drive to Boulder and the Shelby American Museum on September 10, there will be a one day fund raising event: the Denver Round Table “Drive for the Kids”. This event includes breakfast, lunch dinner, wine tasting and a delightful drive on some of the most scenic roads in Colorado. For information on this event, contact Cyndi Mumm or Gene Cookenboo (RMJC) or register online at www.denverroundtable.net.

September 17 and 18 will be the 28th Annual Colorado English Motoring Conclave in Arvada. There should be over 500 cars and motorcycles present at this year’s show. Saturday will be a “Ride the Rockies” Gimmick Rallye. On Sunday, everyone will gather at Oak Park in Arvada for the show. There is no general admission charge so come to the show if only just to see the beautiful vehicles. For more information, visit the website www.theColoradoConclave.com.

Be sure and download the latest Newsletter if you haven’t received one via email. The newsletters contain great photos and trip reports from our various events.

Planning is well under way for the October Pikes Peak Concours d’ Elegance and July and August events are being finalized.

The JCSC had a commanding presence at the 2011 Briarhurst Father’s Day Show in Manitou Springs on June 19. The weather was spectacular and so were the Jaguars. New faces this year included Richard Hart with his beautiful 1969 E-Type Coupe and Al Thaut with his picture perfect 1995 XJS convertible. Jaguar – Colorado Springs provided a new 2011 XJ-L and a XKR and both were spectacular hits – proof that the new Jaguar’s continue to have what it takes to attract lots of attention.

Who said XK’s don’t have leaper’s on their bonnets? Tom and Donna Miller’s 2007 XKR. Tom seemed a little touchy about kids with water bottles getting too close to his kitty! The other gems glistening in the June sunshine included Roy and Angela Winton’s 2001 XK-8 convertible, Gary and Dee Kerkow’s 2007 XK Coupe, Don Yowell’s 2003 XK-8 Coupe and Dave and Larenda Hershey’s 1995 XJ-S Coupe.

Here’s Richard Hart’s 1969 E-Type Coupe and Al Thaut’s 1995 XJ-S Convertible. Our thanks to Larenda Hershey and the Briarhurst Restaurant for arranging such a lovely setting for our club’s litter of kittens.
